Eco-Friendly Refills — El Berlingot
Behind every refill lies a choice. Ours was clear from the start: if the bottle is made of glass — a material that can be reused indefinitely and generates fewer CO₂ emissions than plastic or aluminium — the most logical thing is to fill it again, and to do so in the most sustainable way possible.
That is how El Berlingot was born, our own refill format, developed at Alpiguisa Innovación and inspired by the tetrahedral packaging invented in 1951. Made from an outer layer of kraft cardboard and a thin inner layer of PE, it generates just 6.3 g of CO₂ per unit, compared to 141.9 g for a full new primary pack — a reduction of over 95% in emissions per refill.
El Berlingot is not just a symbolic gesture. It has been validated through accelerated stability testing, physicochemical and microbiological analysis, including a Challenge test, in compliance with European Cosmetics Regulation EC 1223/2009. And it was awarded the Best Ecopackaging Prize at the Eco & Organic Awards Iberia 2024.
Refilling your bottle once a month is equivalent, over a year, to saving the CO₂ of driving 16 km by car or charging a mobile phone 116 times. A small gesture. A real impact
